Its Rude To Point
This is where Bourgeoisie began. A heavyweight acid-washed hoodie built around a phrase most people have heard before.
The Concept
Growing up in an Eastern European household, certain phrases became part of everyday life. Small rules. Small corrections. Things said so often they became instinct.
"It's rude to point."
Years later, that phrase resurfaced. Not as a lesson, but as a question.
The first Bourgeoisie hoodie took a familiar expression and removed it from its original context. What remained was something both personal and universal. A statement that felt equally nostalgic, confrontational, and open to interpretation.
The collection was never intended to provide answers. It was intended to start a conversation.
The Fabric
The collection almost looked very different.
The original vision was a frosted purple French terry hoodie. The fabric felt unfamiliar, slightly disruptive, and impossible to ignore. At the time, however, Bourgeoisie was unknown. There was no history, no audience, and no foundation to support such a bold first step.
The decision was made to strip everything back.
The final hoodie was produced in a washed black cotton fleece. Familiar. Understated. Honest.
Rather than asking the garment to stand out through colour, the focus shifted to what mattered most: fit, feel, and message.
In many ways, the fabric became a reflection of the brand itself at the time. Quiet on the surface, but carrying something deeper underneath.
Heavyweight cotton fleece, acid-washed before cut-and-sew to give each piece a slight variation in tone. No two pieces came out identical. The wash process softened the weight without removing the structure — it drapes without collapsing.
The Campaign
The campaign began with a simple gesture.
A hand pointing.
A series of Polaroids were photographed against a black backdrop, each showing a different hand pointing in the same direction. As the images accumulated, they created a sense of agreement. A crowd moving together. A collective decision.
Then one image interrupted the pattern.
One hand pointed elsewhere.
The final collage was not about rebellion. It was about independence. The ability to arrive at your own conclusion, even when surrounded by people moving in another direction.
That final image became the first visual expression of Bourgeoisie. Not louder than the rest. Just unwilling to follow them.
Drop 01 launched February 14, 2024. One colourway: Black. Sizes XS–XL. Sold through in a single weekend. The first run established the pattern the brand has maintained since: limited quantities, no restock, no apology.
The archive documents the piece as it was. No plans to reissue. Season One stays where it belongs.
